Details

Right now the linux installer blows away everything before installing.  Need to
emulate the Windows installer behavior of selectively removing obsolete files. 
Note, Samir has created a document defining the work which needs to be done, but
I've lost track of the link.  Samir, can you add the link to this bug, please.
