Description

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:31.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/31.0 (Beta/Release)
Build ID: 20140606090403

Steps to reproduce:

Change the config variables "browser.newtabpage.rows" and "browser.newtabpage.columns" to values greater than 4.

Actual results:

Any number greater than 4 and the browser treats it as if the value was 4.

Expected results:

It should accept the given number and adapt accordingly.

If this isn't a bug and was intended as a saftey feature then the limit of 4 is much too low. With modern widescreen monitors it's a waste of space to have it so restricted.

WFM on Fx30 Win8.1, set the both to 8 or else value works fine.

Wrong version. This is the Aurora channel (now v31) which has had a change to the new tab page.

There can be more tabs, but it is limited by screenspace because of the fixed size and margins of the tabs. On my screen the max is 4 rows and 6 columns.

The height and width of the grid now adapt to the size of the window, so if the window isn't tall enough to show browser.newtabpage.rows rows, it'll show as many rows as it can, and similarly, if it's not wide enough to show browser.newtabpage.columns columns, it'll show as many as it can. The size of each tile in the grid is now also fixed, whereas before tiles grew and shrank depending on the window size.

Can you elaborate on comment 0? Are you seeing different behavior from what I just described?

Drew, that is very much the case. Is there an overide for this? I could quite comfortably fit 5 columns on before. If the resolution is being detected to calculate how many windows are possible wouldn't it also be sensible to use it to calculate the size of the windows? As you can see here (http://i.imgur.com/VwhFfmX.png) there's quite a difference between my computer's resolution and the resolution of the windows. If they were the same, 5 columns would again be possible.

Is this fixed now? I've gone back to 5 columns in 32.0a2 (2014-07-21)

Oh. Apparently the reversion to the old system has been "fixed" again. (fyi, I'm foggster@hotmail. I've switched emails since posting)
