Right now, the JavaScript console has no hotkey. It would be much more handy to
be able to open it by pressing, say, CTRL+J for Windows.

would love that too. enhancement request. ctrl-j sounds good (but what about the
java console then?)

JavaScript's more important. :)

Java Console can be Ctrl+Shift+J or something.

(wontfix).

Don't assign keyboard equivalents for infrequently used menu commands.
Add keyboard equivalents only for the commands your users employ most
    frequently.

Shortcut keys (also referred to as accelerator keys) are keys or key
combinations that users can press for quick access to *actions they
    perform frequently*.

On the list of functions performed most often by Web users, opening the script
console is probably about the fifty billionth. Marking invalid.

Adding dependency to bug 47128; we developers wouldn't need a shortcut key if we
had a visual notification of errors (and possibly a click-to-open like in IE).
Depends on: 47128
I would like to disagree. The purpose of Mozilla is to provide development
binaries for testing. Web developers and mozilla developers need to
constantly check for javascript errors when things go wrong. In a
development IDE, debug is one of the central hotkeys of the program
(akin to starting mailnews) because it starts one of the features that the
program was developed to provide. Because Mozilla is developed to
provide development binaries for testing (debugging), the debugger
console should be availble simply. I'm not saying that command(control)-
7 should open the js-console, but command(control)-j or something else
that is unused doesn't add much and would help developers (both web
and mozilla developers).
MPT: "On the list of functions performed most often by Web users, opening the
script console is probably about the fifty billionth. Marking invalid."

I would be interested to find out where he gets this ultra-conclusive
information. I think the JavaScript console is used more frequently than it is
given credit for. But like I said, I won't care if bug 47128 gets fixed.
