Bug 854795 added the possibility to decode an image as if it was a smaller image. It could be good enough to decode a big contact picture where we need a small one (eg: thumbnail in applications) and so to remove the current way of storing several images in mozContacts (was bug 967272).

In this bug, the goal is to first do a PoC and measure how well it behaves, both for memory and CPU.

Interesting, idea, didn't know about -moz-samplesize, right now with the new data architecture we were even thinking on providing a DS with the thumbnails for sharing between applications.

If this works, it will save a lot of extra work on our side :)
