Upstream Hunspell uses .cxx for their source files. When we did the original import, we renamed them all to .cpp, which makes upstream updates a time-consuming process. I attempted to mass-rename them to .cxx only to get mozbuild.frontend.reader.SandboxValidationErrors due to cxx not being a recognized type.

This appears to work. At least, cxx files I added to the tree attempt to compile now.
