Hello Peter,
I wanted to let you know that we recently changed printers for Peekaboo from the Dymo LabelWriter Turbo 450 in response to Jim's concerns about image print quality. After doing some investigation on options, I came across a dye-sub photo printer from Canon that does a pretty respectable job - the Canon Selphy 900 series. We have been able to swap the printers out without any modification to the system, and the badges now have legible images on them.
One thing we may need to look at is that we sometimes get a random character that prints between the first and last name (it looks like a letter "H", in red). We are not sure if this is an issue being generated in the pdf creation, or if it's a problem with the print head on this particular unit (we have seen this mainly on the MTV printer). We are going to swap the printer out, but I wanted you to check it out first before the printer leaves MTV just to make sure that it's not something in the code.

Can you take a picture of it and upload it to this bug?

Also, the PDF is just the page you see before you press the print button.
For example: https://peekaboo.mozilla.org/en-US/log/entry/1861/print.pdf
If you have any PDFs with the misprint on it it would be easier to debug this.

Here's some examples - one with the random characters, and one that prints normally.

Strange thing on the misprint is that we are not seeing the random characters in the print preview - the print preview looks just fine.

Then it sounds like the PDF is generated correctly. Have you got the URL to the PDF(s)?

When you click the "Print" button on the Log it opens a PDF in a new tab. The URL of that page.

Here's a pdf that printed with the random characters between first and last names:

Sigh. Looks like there's little we can do on the PDF side. There's clearly something unpredictable. Can we perhaps keep that PDF and send that to their (Canon?) support?

Lisa,
We reinstalled the Dymo in MTV in order to handle bulk badge printing, since the receptionist said the Selphy was too slow. We also re-intsalled the Selphy several months ago. If the second Selphy failed, neither the Service Desk nor I were infomed.
I am happy to investigate the latest in faster (and cost effective) Label printers for MTV, given that MTV has the largest number of visitors and the largest number of visiting groups.

Also, Canon replied that they need to investigate further on the issue. I periodically check in with them for updates to the drivers, but they have not updated recently. Next update is mid Feb.

This request is being closed, due to the move of WPR from Peekaboo to a new
visitor management system and the shutdown of Peekaboo.
