We currently have 12 300GB SAS drives in RAID5. [mpressman@backup1.metrics.scl3 ~]$ sudo hpacucli ctrl slot=3 show config Smart Array P410i in Slot 3 (sn: 5001438021F9C5E8) logicaldrive 1 (3.0 TB, RAID 5, OK) array A (SAS, Unused Space: 0 MB) physicaldrive 1I:1:1 (port 1I:box 1:bay 1, SAS, 300 GB, OK) physicaldrive 1I:1:2 (port 1I:box 1:bay 2, SAS, 300 GB, OK) physicaldrive 1I:1:3 (port 1I:box 1:bay 3, SAS, 300 GB, OK) physicaldrive 1I:1:4 (port 1I:box 1:bay 4, SAS, 300 GB, OK) physicaldrive 1I:1:5 (port 1I:box 1:bay 5, SAS, 300 GB, OK) physicaldrive 1I:1:6 (port 1I:box 1:bay 6, SAS, 300 GB, OK) physicaldrive 1I:1:7 (port 1I:box 1:bay 7, SAS, 300 GB, OK) physicaldrive 1I:1:8 (port 1I:box 1:bay 8, SAS, 300 GB, OK) physicaldrive 1I:1:9 (port 1I:box 1:bay 9, SAS, 300 GB, OK) physicaldrive 1I:1:10 (port 1I:box 1:bay 10, SAS, 300 GB, OK) physicaldrive 1I:1:11 (port 1I:box 1:bay 11, SAS, 300 GB, OK) physicaldrive 1I:1:12 (port 1I:box 1:bay 12, SAS, 300 GB, OK) Expander 250 (WWID: 50014380237BE5A6, Port: 1I, Box: 1) Enclosure SEP (Vendor ID HP, Model D2200sbx12) 248 (WWID: 50014380237BE5A5, Port: 1I, Box: 1) SEP (Vendor ID PMCSIERA, Model SRC 8x6G) 249 (WWID: 5001438021F9C5F7) We'd like to at least double that to 12 600GB drives. We don't necessarily need SAS, this is a backup that runs weekly, so SATA drives, if compatible and cheaper are completely acceptable.

I've put in a request with our vendor to provide a quote for 12x600gb SATA and 12x900gb SATA drives. Will let you know ASAP.

no 900GB or 600GB SATA drives. they have only 1TB and 500GB options. let me know how you'd like to proceed. HP 1TB 3G SATA 7.2K SFF 2.5IN $519 each HP 500 GB 3G SATA 7.2K SFF 2.5IN $329 each It looks like a 2 week lead time on either one

Van, let's go with the 500GB SATA drives. For our setup, that will give us the opportunity to have a full backup and incrementals with enough storage as our current license allow on the primary.

order placed with our vendor. FYI if we have issues with new drives: NOTE: In order to support SATA MDL HDD/ SATA SSDs in a D2200sb, the Smart Array Firmware has to be upgraded to version 5.06.

This can be tomorrow, that would be great. It won't have any impact as it is currently only used on weekends
