User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.3; WOW64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/35.0.1916.153 Safari/537.36 Steps to reproduce: Using gmail account (imap). Read mail from another mail client (for example gmail web). Messages are marked as "read". Start Thunderbird, automatically connect to gmail mail account. Look at message list. Actual results: A number of message that are "read" in the gmail web view (as well as in other mail clients like OSX Mail.app and iPad Mail), are displayed as "unread" in Thunderbird. Expected results: The "read" messages should be displayed as "read" also in Thunderbird. It seems that Thunderbird doesn't synchronize message read status properly. I have found one way to fix this problem: to select "Folder Properties" -- "General Information" -- "Repair Folder". However, I have to do this repeatedly, and I assume that I shouldn't need to, which is why I report this as a bug.

(In reply to Martin Fredriksson from comment #0) > Steps to reproduce: > Using gmail account (imap). > Read mail from another mail client (for example gmail web). Messages are marked as "read". > Start Thunderbird, automatically connect to gmail mail account. > Look at message list. > Actual results: > A number of message that are "read" in the gmail web view (as well as in other mail clients like OSX Mail.app and iPad Mail), > are displayed as "unread" in Thunderbird. Which was actual procedure? (a) Mark a mail Read by other client -> Start Thunderbird -> The mail is shown as Unread in Thunderbird (b) Start Thunderbird, a mail is Unread -> Mark the Unread mail as Read by other client -> The mail is still shown as Unread in Thunderbird If (b), it's perhaps well known phenomenon of bug 693204. If (a), some cases are possible, for example, (a-1) you started Tb with Work Offline mode, so, current status is not obtaied from server, (a-2) CONDSTORE relevant phenomenon, because "uid fetch 1:* flags (CHANGEDSINCE ...)" is used at startup by Tb, if CONDSTORE support is enabled (enabled by default, and Gmail IMAP supports CONDSTORE), (a-3) problem like bug 1123094, ... Same phenomenon as bug 693204?

So sorry I didn't reply to the previous questions. I must have missed the mails telling me about it. Anyway, to answer the question in Comment #1: Yes, the problem still exists, albeit much less freqeunt. To answer the question in Comment #2: the procedure I used was (a). I didn't start Tb with Offline, so my problem is probably (a-2) or (a-3). I've not checked out the actual messages sent, so I don't know exactly what the problem is. I'll start a network monitor next time I experience the problem to see what messages are sent. My server is currently gmail, btw. Again, sorry for not being active on this issue. I'll be sure to check this more carefully in the future.
