This would be amazing. The fact that pinned tabs and browsing history are so tightly bound makes no sense. They have distinct goals. If pinned tabs were to be coupled with any other functionality, it should be likened to a bookmark, not a history object. Pinned tabs pose as much as a privacy risk as bookmarks, which is mostly little, while history poses a significant privacy risk. I think pinned tabs are great, but I have never been able to use them.
