I'm not really happy with how the indicators are made, I think that for accessibility it's quite bad: "content" is not read by the screen reader while the "MMS" text probably is because it's hidden using font-size and height. It would be better to use 2 different elements that we can show/hide them, and to directly set the text content instead of using "content: attr()".
In 1.4 we use attr() for both the counter indicator and the MMS indicator. In v2.0 we use it only for the counter indicator, which means that "MMS" is always readable by the screen reader, even for messages that are not MMS.
