From Bugzilla Helper: User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:0.9.2) Gecko/20010809 BuildID: 2001080910 Most moderately complex pages with multiple fonts combined with graphics cause my printer to fail with an out-of-memory condition when I try to print the Postscript output from Mozilla on Linux. This happens whether I print directly from Mozilla or generate a file and then send it to lpr myself. The printer just stops when it runs out of memory. I have not seen this behavior when printing from Communicator 4.78 on Linux, nor in fact from Postscript files generated by any other Linux applications, nor from IE, Outlook or MS Word on Windows. It definitely happens in both Mozilla 0.9.2 and Mozilla 0.9.4 on Linux. I haven't tried Mozilla on Windows; I can check that. My printer is an HP LaserJet 2100 with a JetDirect board and 8MB of RAM. It is accessed via a jetdirect queue from Linux. This seems pretty serious to me. I'll probably have to buy more RAM for my printer if I want to use Mozilla, but I'm probably not the only one. I looked for a similar bug report but couldn't find any. I'm not enough of a Poscript wiz to be able to diagnose the problem any further, but I'm certainly willing to run some tests in my environment. One nice thing is that I wouldn't need an entire application, just some Postscript output, in order to test it. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Go to a typical web page, e.g. Mapquest output. 2. Print it on an 8MB LaserJet 2100 PS printer via JetDirect. 3. Watch the printer freeze and the red light come on. Actual Results: My printer froze Expected Results: Printing runs to completion
Reporter: If you print a URL with NS4.7x ist works and the same URL doesn't work with Mozilla ?
That's correct. For example, if I go to Mapquest.com, get driving directions, hit the "Print..." icon on that page, hit "Send to Printer" on the next page, then OK on the print dialog, the printer prints one page then hangs with an out-of-memory condition. If I do the same thing in Linux Netscape 4.78, it prints fine. Also, I just tried Windows Mozilla 0.9.4 and did *not* have the same problem. So it appears to be Linux (or Unix) specific.
Imagelib produces big images and our posscript sucks. This is already filed but I can't find the original.
