Description

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:30.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/30.0 (Beta/Release)
Build ID: 20140605174243

Steps to reproduce:

I watched a video on Youtube on incognito mode. Let's call this video 'test1234'. I close the incognito tab. Then go back to regular browsing mode and go on YouTube.
I search 'test1234' on YouTube, but now the same video is marked as 'watched' on YouTube. I've never watched this video on regular browsing mode. incognito keeps record of what I've watched on incognito mode, which kind of defeats its purpose. This issue doesn't appear while using linux, but it's happening on windows.

Expected results:

The purpose of incognito is to completely forget your browsing history, but it doesn't do its function.

Can you provide more, step by step, details of what's going wrong here, and how to reproduce this? Are you sure you didn't log in to your google account in the private browsing window?

Yes, I'm absolutely sure.Ok do this:
>Open private window (logged off of everything)
>Go on youtube
>Click on any video
>Watch it for a few seconds
>Remember the video title
>close private window
>be on regular browsing
>go to youtube
>search the title of the video
>there'll be some videos listed as search result
>if you pay attention to top left of the thumbnail, it shows that the video you watched in incognito as 'watched'.
There shouldn't be any record of what you do in incognito left otherwise it defeats its purpose.
This problem doesn't happen with firefox on linux. only on windows

I don't see any indication of 'watched' videos' on youtube, despite being logged in - even if I watch the video in "normal" browsing mode.

Can you check if you can reproduce this with add-ons disabled and/or on a new firefox profile ( https://support.mozilla.org/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode and https://support.mozilla.org/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles should help with that) ? If so, can you perhaps provide a screenshot of what you mean? I didn't see anything on thumbnails, except the duration of the video on the bottom right, replaced by the icon of a clock when hovering over it (which happens on all videos).

Without more information, we can't really fix this, and it's been over 4 months - resolving this as incomplete for now. Please reopen if you can still reproduce and provide more information.
