When you open the message source of a message in a newsgroup, you see a NNTP-Posting-Host with the IP adres of the sender. Recently I got an ADSL connection with a fixed IP-adres. I noticed several times (400+ times in a view minutes) that people try to scan for open TCP ports on my computer. Obviously they got my IP address from this message headers. This would not have been a problem with a DHCP-assigned address, but it is with a fixed IP address. My request would be to have a possibility to either hide the IP address or change it to something like 127.0.0.1
Cannot be done by Mozilla. The NNTP-Posting-Host is added by the server. There is nothing that Mozilla can do to prevent the server from adding this header. Note: some paid newsservers hide the NNTP-Posting-Host.
Indeed, there is nothing we can do and nothing that other email clients do. Maybe you should talk to your ISP (to request a dynamic IP) or try to install some software that will prevent your computer from attacks. Clearly, it's not a bug in Mozilla and hence it should be marked wontfix. Seth?
Seth or someone else can correct this resolution if they feel it's injust.
