User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/35.0.1916.153 Safari/537.36 Steps to reproduce: installed firefox os 1.3 simulator . tried running the simulator from app manager. Just to recheck whether nightly works, installed nighly(with intention of installing add on in it and checking if it works). Actual results: simulator started ,but shows black screen(simulator window shows black everywhere, the homescreen and icons are not shown). The home button and orientation button is not shown. nightly:the whole browser screen is black.(like the simulator) Expected results: firefox os 1.3 simulator should run showing the homescreen and all the apps available. nightly should run properly.
Component: Graphics → Simulator
Product: Core → Firefox OS
Version: 30 Branch → unspecified
I had suggested the reporter file this in Graphics, as he stated it also affected recent versions of Firefox Nightly (desktop) as well as the simulator, so it seems to be something in Gecko, rather than specific to just the simulator. Is Graphics the right place?

Right, I read it as "I tried the simulator in nightly as well".

Let's first deal with comment 0: "nightly:the whole browser screen is black": Can you run with the clean profile, no add-ons? Can you set layers.offmainthreadcomposition.enabled to false and see if that makes a difference? Can you attach/send the graphics section of about:support? Thanks.
Summary: Firefox OS 1.3 simulator doesn't work.(runs but shows a black screen),same thing happens with nightly . → nightly shows black screen only
Just in case more proof was needed of this bug.
Wesley or Prathamesh, can you supply answers to Milan's questions in comment 3? More info is needed to make progress here.

nightly opens with a black screen in normal mode.In safe mode it run properly.I had tried opening in safe mode then disabling hardware accelaration. With that disable next time nightly opens properly. The about:support page from my blacked-out Nightly build. I launched Nightly with a fresh profile. There are no system-wide add-ons that I'm aware of. I checked layers.offmainthreadcomposition.enabled in about:config and it was set to false already.

I am going to try updating my graphics drivers (as recommended by Gijs on irc)
I got an updated graphics driver from intel, restarted my computer, and launched Nightly. Still getting black screen. No change.
I started Nightly in Safe mode and I got the same result as Prath: Screen is normal. According to the Intel Graphics and Media Control Panel, my graphics driver version is 8.15.10.2342. According to about:support on Nightly, my graphics driver version is 8.830.6.2000 I got the driver from here: http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect?iid=dc_iduu
I'm experiencing exactly the same issue with FF33 beta 1. Tested on a fresh profile with no extensions installed and all available plugins disabled. I'm running it on Samsung 700Z series laptop, featuring Switchable Graphics (AMD Radeon HD 6750M + Intel HD Graphics). Latest drivers from Samsung are installed. I tried switching graphics to both Power Saving and High Performance modes manually without any apparent difference. In safe mode FF works fine. As a side note, I had to disable WebGL in FF32 (release) on this same laptop to make Google Maps work. Not sure if it's relevant in the context of this issue, though.
The latest beta (build ID 20140911191954) fixed the black window problem for me on the laptop I mentioned in comment #12. Thanks.
Severity: normal → S3
