I have commited changes needed for this to play files locally on both linux and
windows. to test this on linux, you will need esd, which I will try and find
rpms for shortly. mail me if you have any questions about making this run on
linux.

we need some kind of converter so that people can pass in file urls instead of
having to have localness things like /foo/foo.wav under unix or c:\foo\foo.wav
on windows. Is there anything like this available ?

FYI, there is QuickTime sample code for Mac (and Windows) that will play a WAV
file from disk. Look for the sample code on the QuickTime developer site.

Look for SndSnip_PlayWAVEFileWithQuickTime() in the sound snippets code at
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/developers/samplecode.html#goodies
