User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.3; WOW64; rv:29.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/29.0 SeaMonkey/2.26.1 (Beta/Release)
Build ID: 20140612174402

Steps to reproduce:

1. Right click a mail folder from the folder tree.
2. Click properties. This should open the properties window.

Actual results:

Properties window opens. However, after opening the properties window, you cannot change the active folder shown in the properties window.

Expected results:

Ability to switch to other folders' properties within the properties window would be nice. Otherwise a user should close the current properties window. Right click the folder to open the context menu and click properties button in the context menu again. A combo-box to browse the mail folders eases to check/edit properties of a bunch of folders at once.

Thank you for your bug report. What is the usecase? Why would a user expect this? You might want to join us on IRC where real time discussions are conducted.

The channel is: irc://moznet/SeaMonkey Click on this link and the built in Chatzilla IRC client should attach to the correct channel.

I need such a feature cause I regularly fix my mail folders. My mail folders got broken quite often. (I have reasons that this may be a problem of the IMAP server, so I didn't bother bugzilla with that. This is another story.) As the folders got broken, I would like to repair them one after another, quickly from the UI. (Sometimes I just browse to the folder and delete all msf's cause the UI is not fast enough.) This is my main concern to ask for such a feature.

Other use cases I can think of are: (1) people may want to set character encodings for folders. Instead of closing and re-opening properties window separately for each folder, they may open it once and then browse inside the properties window. (2) People may want to set default mail fetching behaviour for their IMAP folders and they need to open properties window separately for each folder. Both (1) and (2) may be thought "once in a setup" but still, we should have urge to ease this.

Currently in SeaMonkey (like in most other programs) the properties dialog (from context menu) shows information concerning a (double-) clicked item of a list. If the user wants to see properties of an other list item, he has to close the properties dialog, select the next item and open properties dialog again.
It would be much more comfortable if the user simply could click the next list item while the properties dialog still is open, and information in the dialog would change to information t newly selected item automatically.

Additional info:
a) This problem does not only affect e-mail folder properties. Also affected:
Sidebar bookmarks properties, address list entries and may be more.
b) This is not a special SeaMonkey problem, more or less any Software does it
   that way (with smaller variations).
c) I don't think that we can get a solution for this enhancement request in
SeaMonkey - that would need changes in core.

@reporter:
Do you know any software where a properties dialog follows new selections?
OS: Windows 8.1 → Windows
Component: MailNews: General → General
Summary: Mail folders should be able to be selected within the folder properties window. → Information in Properties window should change to newly selected objects for request
c): But at least in FF nothing similar does exist.
