Details

Bugzilla currently offers two entry modes, one called the 'Bugzilla Helper' and one called 'the advanced bug entry form' as indicated by the *last* link at the bottom of the bug entry pages (like the one I am currently using). Clicking on the link switches to the other input but *looses all previous work*. Since the link is at the bottom of the page, this will result in a bug submitter typing lots of input and then loosing that work if she then sees the link and switches to the other input page. There are two issues: loosing the text (hard) and the order of the workflow (easy).

A temporary work-around would be to make the link appear *above* the text entry so that the workflow would be 1st switch, then enter text. (This avoids the enter text, switch, loose all work sequence.)

The more complete work around would be to enhance the context switch sequence to make sure all the filled out content is transferred to the new page. The text entries must be copied into the text fields on the new form, even if copied into the wrong field or merged into a single field; cut and paste is cheaper than rewriting a full bug report.
Which Bugzilla version is this about? Setting the Version field is welcome.
Lol! Please see: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1040074 for why I don't know.

The version of bugzilla is whatever is running on July 17th 2014 at bugzilla.mozilla.org.
Well, you did not mention that this report is about bugzilla.mozilla.org so I assumed it's some random Bugzilla installation that you maintain and expected you to know what you're running. ;)
Mentioning which instance you refer to is the other way to provide that info - this Bugzilla is 4.2.9.
Version: unspecified → 4.2.9
Although, to add further confusion here, bugzilla.mozilla.org runs a *heavily* modified 4.2.9 with lots and lots of features and fixes backported from 4.4 and master. :)

In general we don't really need to know the version if it's bugzilla.mozilla.org, since it changes every week, so just knowing when the bug is filed is sufficient (although the exact date the problem was seen, like in comment #2, is perfect, thanks!).
The Bugzilla Helper is a bmo customization.

sorry, but moving the advanced link to the top of the page isn't something that i'm keen on doing - the advanced form is there for advanced users only, and promoting it before the standard form may result in it being used in preference of the guided form.

as copying all the data is non-trivial we discuss adding a warning in bug 771244.
