User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:30.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/30.0 (Beta/Release)
Build ID: 20140605174243
Steps to reproduce:
1. Bookmark this page (Ctrl-D)
2. Add a word to the beginning of the name, e.g. "myTODO " -> Done
3. Close the page
4. Type in address bar: "myTODO"
5. The page comes up, yay!
6. Open the page
7. Edit the bookmark (Ctrl-D)
8. Change "myTODO" to "myDONE" -> Done
9. Close the page
10. Type in address bar: "myTODO"
Actual results:
11. The same bookmark still comes up even though it shouldn't! Bummer :(
Expected results:
11. The same bookmark doesn't come up anymore. Sweet!

Kenkon: Does it work after the tab is closed? Could you please try these instructions?
1. Open a page, eg. disney.com
2. Bookmark that page (Ctrl-D) and a word in the beginning name of the bookmark, e.g. "myTODO" -> Done
3. Edit the bookmark (Ctrl-D) and change that word to a different one, e.g. "myDONE"
4. Close the bookmarked page and ensure it's not open in any tab
5. Open a new tab (Ctrl-T)
6. Type in address bar: "myTODO"
For me the behavior depends on whether the bookmarked page is open in any tab or not.
I followed your instructions but I still can't reproduce it. You should really try it with a new clean profile. BTW, how many bookmarks do you have?

This has happened this month on four different computers, each with a separate profile and bookmarks. Each has been a Windows 7 one with latest Firefox (now 30.0). Other details vary, e.g. 32-bit or 64-bit, English or Finnish, Enterprise or Professional. The one I'm currently using has a bit less than 300 bookmarks.
For example today I tested this with Disney.com, adding first "oldword " in the beginning of the name of the bookmark -> Done, changed it to "newword " -> Done. After closing the tab, when opening a new tab and typing "oldword" in the address bar the first dropdown entry shows as "newword Disney.com | The official home for all things Disney".

It would still be useful if you could try it with a completely vanilla profile with nothing else in it.
If you're anything like me and/or the rest of the world, there are probably bits you /always/ change in your Firefox profiles on the different machines (e.g. I can't live without configuring session restore to always restore my tabs). It's quite possible that /something/ is interfering which means other people can't reproduce. Doesn't mean it's not a valid bug necessarily - but we need to know what it is in order to narrow down the cause and fix the issue...

Any pointers for how to best switch profiles?
Firefox menu and settings don't have anything about that. I'd rather avoid accidentally removing or damaging my current profile with outdated or otherwise incorrect instructions. Thank you.

https://support.mozilla.org/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles
should work. Profiles are not removed unless you remove them with the profile manager or through e.g. Firefox reset; of course you may need to change the default profile back to your existing one after testing...

Hi Joni,
I have tested the mentioned issues on latest Firefox release (43.0.4) and latest Nightly (46.0a1) and I could not reproduce it. I followed your steps, but the bookmark doesn't come up anymore after I type the old name. The bookmark only comes up when I type the new name.
Firefox: 43.0.4, Build ID: 20160105164030, User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:43.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/43.0
Firefox: 46.0a1, Build ID: 20160106030225, User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:46.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/46.0
Can you please test this on the latest Firefox release (43.0.4) or latest Nightly (46.0a1, https://nightly.mozilla.org/) and tell me if this still reproduces for you ? When doing this please use a new fresh Firefox profile, maybe also in safe mode (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-and-diagnose-firefox-problems).
Thanks,
Cosmin.
