Description

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:31.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/31.0 (Beta/Release)
Build ID: 20140715214327

Steps to reproduce:

On Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS \n \l with xmonad 0.11-6build1 using Mozilla Firefox 31.0 open developer tools and click on the color picker tool.
Move the cursor to something.

Actual results:

The preview box will shortly show up and disappear. If you move the mouse too fast the + cursor will disappear as well.

Expected results:

The preview box showed up and stayed until I clicked on the color to pick. The arrow should stay visible whether I move it fast or not.

I think it only works if there's a composite manager.

XFCE, xmonad, ion, all these wm are affected.

It's calling openPopupAtScreen / moveTo on a XUL panel to open and move the popup:

http://dxr.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/source/browser/devtools/eyedropper/eyedropper.js#201
http://dxr.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/source/browser/devtools/eyedropper/eyedropper.js#436

Do you think this is an issue with the XUL panel itself or something that could be fixed just for this case?

I don't know. My guess: it's a platform issue.

I can confirm the same behavior of a new developer tool - Eyedropper.
But i'm not using xmonad. I use XFCE and Slackware-current distro (32-bit).
The symptoms are the same as OP mentioned, but sometimes magnifying lense of the eyedropper appears with artifacts (see this screenshot http://imgur.com/oYxA7UH ).

PS: I was curious, if someone else is experiencing this bug, and apparently there are people as well - see this thread on LQ: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/slackware-14/firefox-31-eydropper-not-working-4175512403/

I can confirm what is in Comment5 - I'm using Debian GNU/Linux with Xfce and without Xmonad and still problem appears. If you need some more info, just let me know what to send.
