Mail message context (right-click) menu does not appear to have same format as
those in browser, ie. there is no 'open in new tab' option.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Open mail/news
2.Go to a message with a URL in (nntp, http, ftp)
3.Right click on link

Actual Results:  Context menu

Expected Results:  Context menu with 'Open in new tab' option added

Should perhaps be related to browser:tabbed-browsing component.
Bug 101768 (marked dup of 101487) suggested an "open in new tab" context menus,
but was marked dup of bug 101487 - Context menus made it into browser only.

This is a little more difficult than I thought. I assumed that we could just add
in the menu item for Open in new Tab, but the code works differently from Open
in new Window. Open in new tab assumes that the message pane is a browser window
and tries to make a tab within it. The message pane doesn't like this and seems
to do nothing. I had assumed it would do what happens when you just click a link
in the message pane, but what happens then is that the mail window appears to
try to load the link and when it finds out that it doesn't handle those types of
links, it sends it to the (nearest?) open window.

I'll keep looking, but any help would be appreciated.

I think this would be really cool.

I don't see this stated explicitly in this bug yet, but I would expect that if
you chose this menu item, it would find an existing browser window and open it
in a new tab in that window and bring that window forward with that tab
selected.  If there's no browser yet then it would just open a browser window.

Can I suggest changing this to the appropriate Product and Component: MailNews,
Mail FrontEnd?

I notice a lot of duplicates have been filed, because people couldn't find this
one as it's not where people would look for it.

 "open in new tab" in mailnews link context-menus is being implemented in bug
101955, as far as i understand it?
bug 101955 is about middle click, but this one - just regular context menu item
after right mouse click.

I agree with comment #10, to prevent dups it would be helpful to have a MailNews
bug on this.  Would it make sense to reopen a duplicate with a good title and
mailnews categories, and mark it as depending on this bug?

Open in new tab is present in message pane link context menu, works and opens
link in a new tab in browser window.
