Because having them on the top left means that they are in the least reachable place. I guess I have really short fingers compared to UX people ;)

Please, let's get our facts right - this is a more nuanced issue than you may think. There is no evidence that the top right is easier to target than the top left. See the studies here:

The corners are generally the hardest places to target anywhere on the screen. This includes the bottom right corner, even though this is the most "reachable" area of the screen. 

The areas easiest to target are actually in the middle of the screen. This is why iOS's approach of physically moving the top chrome down to the middle of the screen is a good one. 

I'm not saying that having the navigation controls in the left corners is ideal. The corners are the hardest area of the screen to target after all, and I'm flagging Harly for comment. But moving them to the top right will make no difference.

FWIW I agree with Francis on this one, I don't think it would make any difference. I'm going to go ahead and close this but please re-open if this or something similar becomes a possibility in the future.

I agree with Francis on this as well. There are many variables we need to consider to make any assumption on what is reachable or not. For example like the screen size of device and the hand size of the user. Even things like right-handed or left-handed might also affect the result. So I will advice not to make any hasty changes until we have more solid evidence.
