104496 - Mail subject is blank for mapi mail from Wordpad & Paint

Saw this on Win32 2001-10-12-05 094 branch

Steps to repro:
1)Set mapi option on in Mail prefs.
2)Launch Wordpad
3) Create a new doc. Type a bunch of text in it ,one sentence worth. Save the
doc to a file. (I tried saving as a .RTF, .DOC and .TXT file. Note the title of
the file changes to saved document name.)
4)Now do a File-->Send 
5)Look at the Mail subject line for the Mail invoked

Actual results: The Subject is empty. 
The Mails Title bar says "Compose(No Subject)"

Expected results: The document name should show in the subject and Mail title
bar for the NS6 Mail. They should not be empty by default.

this bug may be invalid. I think mapi allows the application to pass in the
subject as one of the parameters. Some apps (like word) choose to do that and
that's why you see the file name for that field. Other apps choose to not
provide a subject so the subject is emtpy. I think it's determined by the
application and not by the mozilla mapi service. That's my take on it. Rajiv
might know for sure.

(1) MS Paint is not a supported application that can user sMAPI at this stage. 
We'll support this app later on.

Partial sMAPI only supports 4 applications right now: Wordpad, MS Word, Excel, 
Powerpoint.

(2) What's your test result with MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint? Do you see the 
same behavior as in Wordpad? Thx.

Excel 2k and Powerpoint 2k on are fine on my Win 2k system.
 Ms Word 2k is a different problem..see bug 104491

For the same test case, 4.7 puts in a subject line while outlook express doen't.
 So, if we have to comply with 4.7 we have to fix this or else this is not a bug.

We just take the data passed in by the MAPI apps and use it as it is without
manipulating it in any way. Although there could be a workaround by checking if
the subject line is empty and if there is an attachment specified put the
attachment filename as the subject, however I donot think we should change the
data passed in by the calling apps in anyway. Maybe the calling app sends an
empty subject line on purpose, thus insisting the user to put in his own subject
line !
