There seems to be a flurry of requests for write access to localizations by developers.

That surprises me, it could be coincidence or there could be a cause. If so, which?

Generally throughout mozilla, developers don't have write access to the localization files.

OK, so it's not actually for "locale: el" but for locale merges (e.g. r130572).

I talked to Matjaz IRL, and the process isn't tied to version control permissions, but to access to the actual verbatim box.

There are a few open ends that make our existing process hard to explain, Matjaz will talk with Dwayne to get some answers, and then we'll start a conversation how and through which process to open up verbatim to self-serve for developers. Expect updates on that on mozilla.dev.webdev.

Given that this bug doesn't get what Giorgos needs, I'm resolving this WONTFIX.

OK, we'll wait for updates on this. 

Please note that both :sancus and I are moving away from mozillians.org development to other projects. The new web developers -in this case :nemo- need a way to merge string changes. The developer switch is going to happen next Monday Aug 4th.

Actually :nemo will need to have access to SVN in order to merge new strings, which means this bug is still valid. Starting today, he's one of the two mozillians.org developers, but none of them can push new strings for localization.

Note that having svn access to a specific repository is also different than beeing added to the localizers group and give access to all repositories localizers work on, so maybe the accounts should just be associated with the mozillians repo only and not added to the localizers group. I think there is also a webdev group for svn, if this webdev group has access to the mozillians l10n repo, maybe they should be added to this group instead (would make more sense than the localizers one, to me at least :) )

This bug is not ready for IT yet. Committer's agreement needs to be signed and sent - https://www.mozilla.org/hacking/notification/

Once the agreement is confirmed received, :pascalc assign the bug to server-ops for creating the account, etc.
