We'll need to make sure that the curation tools reflect the right languages and have the right keys.

For clarity's sake: the values that will be selected in the curation tools are just keys -- each language's localized version refers to a key (example: for the key "Education", it could be: Education <- Educación (spanish); Education <- Éducation (french)). Keys should be meaningful and singular. Any variations required for effective localization will NOT be in that list (so, if you had Education and Education Spotlight, you would only have Education in the list of keys, since Education Spotlight is a permutation of "Education" used to provide better localizations).

Scott -- the keys are up to you.

We should ensure that we have the right languages represented; I'm not sure who reviews that list.

Once we have the languages verified, the spreadsheet you had before with the strings and languages is fine -- we'd just need you to highlight things.

For keys, we just need to know which items should appear as options in the curation tool. Then we can make sure the correct strings appear in Verbatim. [For the localized editorial brands, you'll need to identify which one (localized string, not the English counterpart) is going to be used. We don't necessarily need that, since anyone can enter it in Verbatim, but it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to share it so we're all referring to the same thing.]

Marking this as a P1 because the sooner the better. While technically we don't need this until closer to launch, it would be good to get this out of the way and focus on the rest of the localizations for Feed v1.

Here are the keys for each Editorial Brand (EdBrand):

Hidden Gem
Groundbreaking
Local Favorites
Mystery App!
Creativity
Apps for [region]
Education
Health & Fitness
Maps & Nav
News & Weather
Books
Shopping
Sports
Tools & Time Savers
Games
Work & Business
Arts & Entertainment
Lifestyle
Music
Photo & Video
Social
Travel

Also, just to clarify/confirm, we'll have singular and plural versions of these EdBrands to account for cases where one app is promoted within an EdBrand, and cases of multiple apps being promoted. It is my assumption that I will enter both singular and plural cases of each edBrand in each language in Verbatim.

Here are all the languages that need to be accounted for (note some languages may not be relevant at launch but will be at some point in 2014 so might as well get 'em in the system now):

en - English
bg - Bulgarian
bn - Bengali
cs - Czech
de - German
el - Greek
es - Spanish
hr - Croatian
hu - Hungarian
it - Italian
ja - Japanese
mk - Macedonian
pl - Polish
pt - Portuguese
ru - Russian
sq - Albanian
sr - Serbian
tr - Turkish (for Germany)
zh-CN - Chinese (simplified)
Great. One clarification for the "Apps for [region]" -- Feed elements have no knowledge of the assigned region; only when a feed element is added to a feed (which *is* assigned to a region) are they related at all, and even then the element is unaware of the containing feed.

A better explanation may be to trace the flow of creation of the feed element: since elements are created outside of a feed context, if you had one "Apps for [region]" ed brand, you would only be able to specify one set of apps for it. So you would have to create one for each region anyway.

At this point, it's probably better if we just leave the "Apps for ..." as they are, with each region accounted for. You're still going to create a feed element for each region, but you'll be able to vary the contents of the feed element for each region.

Is that ok?
Yep - that makes total sense. So why don't we go with the following list for launch (and might I request that all cases of "Apps for ___" appear at the bottom of the Tool's dropdown menu, so I don't have the scroll past them each time I want to access other EdBrands?

Apps for Venezuela
Apps for Argentina
Apps for Chile
Apps for Colombia
Apps for Peru
Apps for Mexico
Apps for Spain
Apps for Uruguay
Apps for Germany
Apps for France
Apps for Italy
Apps for Greece
Apps for Poland
Apps for Brazil
Apps for Serbia
Apps for Montenegro
Apps for Czech Republic
Apps for Croatia
Apps for Bulgaria
Apps for Albania
Apps for Bangladesh
Apps for South Africa
Apps for Russia
Apps for China
Apps for Hungary
Apps for Macedonia
Apps for Ecuador
Apps for El Salvador
Apps for Panama
Apps for Nicaragua
Apps for Costa Rica
Apps for Japan

Also, I just realized I didn't include French in the list of languages om Comment 1. So, please all also account for fr.

Did you intentionally omit Apps for India?
Flags: needinfo?(sdevaney)
Additionally, you seem to have completely eliminated anything with the "Editor's Choice" and "App of the Day" types of branding. Is that intentional?
Good catch on "Apps for India" Chuck! That was my oversight. Please do include it as well.

I did intentionally omit "Editor's Choice" "App of the Day" and others. I had those localized to afford some editorial flexibility but after further thought didn't feel we needed them at this time.

FYI the Feed won't be live in India for the foreseeable future, but it's good to be ready for it and include "Apps for India" as an EdBrand. It is my understanding that all devices currently planned for India are Tarako (no Feed).
