Steps: Install ZoneAlarm (personal firewall; zonealarm.com). Start a new Mozilla nightly build. Zonealarm prompts, do you wish to let mozilla act as a server? do you wish to let mozilla access the internet? say 'no' to both of these prompts. Result: Mozilla crashes. The instruction at 0x77f83941 referenced memory at "0x00000010"; memory could not be written. (probably interpreting an error code as a pointer). Expected result: Mozilla should start, allowing me to view local pages; etc. (Or at least fail gracefully!)
see bug 70934, bug 97084 Reporter: Please use a talkback enabled build. After talkback submitted the crash run <Install-dir>\mozilla\components\talkback.exe and poste the Talkback ID here.

Does this crash still happen with latest builds? I'm using win98, and denying the internet access to mozilla doesn't seem to make it crash (I think that it did previously). Or does it only happen with a newly installed build?
WFM build 2002011803 win2k sp2, new install. zonealarm version 2.6.362. Mozilla is rather slow/doesn't react for a minute or so however.
+qawanted - do we have a consensus that this new version works better? or why the slowness occurs?

Reporter: Does the crash still occur with a recent nightly, available at: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla/nightly/latest/ Thanks
No, it works as expected now. Suggest resolving WORKSFORME.
