Apologies for the bad summary, but it seems like I go to a website that I know suppports a web feed (ie engadget.com/uk) but the feed icon isn't displayed in the URL bar. Also tried CNN and that didn't work.
I can see the Feed icon when using Beta (32) but not when using Nightly (34)

I just tried cnn.com and engadget.com/uk
Both show the feed icon in the URL bar.

I still can't make it appear on nightly. I am on the latest build and all add-ons are uninstalled.

You must have Home Feeds add-on installed. The Feed Icon in the URLBar is not built into Fennec yet. It requires Home Feeds to work.
Without Home Feeds installed, use "Menu > Page > Subscribe to Page" to add a feed.

My beta had the exact same config as nightly yet I see the feed icon in the URL bar in beta but not nightly - is that expected?

Crap. I was moving around from two many browser instances and after re-checking, I am saying that 'Finkle Was Right' and 'I Was Wrong'. Re-added the home panel web feeds add-on to my nightly :/
Sorry for the extra noise.
