I've only noticed this problem in the flash (no relation to shockwave) messages
at www.drudgereport.com.  When it occurs, portions of the text are rendered as
blocks, like they were unprintable characters or something.  Also, this line of
blocks can get quite long, and does not wrap, causing the horizontal scrollbar
along the bottom to appear.  This problem existed even in Mozilla 0.9.4, but at
the time I thought it was just a problem with Drudge's server, since I haven't
seen it occur on other sites.  It seems to be a memory leakish issue, since it
was unreproducible after a restart of the browser.  The View Source window shows
the proper HTML contents, but the rendering on refresh, once it happens once, is
still wrong.

Reproducible: Sometimes
Steps to Reproduce:
1.  Visit www.drudgereport.com, after using the browser for a while.
2.  Click on a link to one of the flash#.htm messages hosted on that server. 
(No indicator from the link itself, just look at the URL it points to.)
3.  Notice the improperly rendered text, if it occurs.

Actual Results:  Did not reproduce the error this time, but I am reporting this
because it has occurred numerous times previously, and I'm afraid of a crash in
the midst of bugwriting if I continue to browse the web waiting for it to happen.

Expected Results:  [If the error had occured] It should have rendered the text
with the proper characters, instead of a group of blocks.

It should be noted that it is not the entire rest of the page that renders wrong
when this occurs at a point in the page, it then reverts back to the proper
rendering at some point later on.  Also, I've only seen it occur at most once in
any particular page.  Finally, I haven't counted the blocks, but the amount of
blocks seemes to correspond roughly to the amount of text that they replace...
as if a portion of the text to be rendered had been overwritten character by
character with unprintables.

I cannot reproduce this, but it sounds a lot like a recent problem with fonts on
Win98 - cc'ing rbs since he knows much more about it than I do

I should point out that the attachment file (which is the homepage from
http://www.drudgereport.com on Oct 29 at around 11:15am MST) was downloaded on a
linux machine using wget, and exhibits the same issues in Mozilla and Opera 5.0
for linux.  This attached file accurately reflects the issue in Mozilla (as of
build 2001101808) and is identical in its display when compared to the homepage
downloaded "live" from the site.  Opera skips over the illegal characters
contained in the file.  Periodic changes to the website content make finding
cases where this occurs tricky, but it is frequent enough to be annoying.  Matt
Drudge has been contacted by me, but there has been no response.

I confirm this bug on Mozilla 0.9.5+ Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US;
rv:0.9.5+) Gecko/20011101. 

The corruption is in the sample file if you scroll down a ways. It looks like
there are some broken "a href...." elements with lots of white space between
them that could be at the root of this.

I'm not sure what the expected behavior should be. I think Mozilla should ignore
lots of extra white space  inside "a href" elements. Otherwise, the text seems
misaligned.

One further note: trying to select-n'-copy the surrounding lines where the 
blocks are displayed triggers the following assertion inside
nsXMLContentSerializer::AppendTextData() :
