System: PowerMac 9500, 200MHz, 88MB RAM
Build IDs: 2001062823

When a window pops up, instantaneously all colors on the screen are corrupted.
I.e. a kind of inverted. Only about 16 colors are left and all colors are
scrambled (red comes as green etc.). Affected are all things displayed on the
screen: background, icons, frames, everything. Text is hard to read, colors are
wrong and the best (and only) thing to get rid of it is a reboot.

This bug already occurs since 0.9.3 (since I use Mozilla) and still does in
0.9.5. It is hard to reproduce which is why I waited so long with the report. It
always occurs when opening a window and the corruption happens as soon as the
(still empty) frame pops up. I cannot predict when it occurs and thus I will
just give some scenarios that happened to me:

1. Selecting a Profile in the Profile Manager and starting Mozilla. The
corruption occurs when the very first big window frame pops up.
2. Starting Mozilla without problems (mail window fist). Opening the Mail
composer - fine. Selecting a font and thereby opening the little sub-window with
the font list (fixed width, variable width, etc.). As soon as the little frame
pops up, the corruption occurs.
3. Viewing web pages with the browser (www.stepstone.de) and thereby opening a
lot of new browser windows. Suddenly when opening about the 7th window the
corruption occurs.
4. When opening the Preferences window as about the third Mozilla window. Next
time it worked fine again.
5. and so on

It never happens twice the same way. I cannot find a connection between several
sessions. Some sessions work without error.

Sorry for this marginal info.

Best regards
	Markus
Reporter, do you have any screen captures that demonstrate this behavior?
I made a screen snapshot when the error occurred. But when I opened the image
(after a reboot), it displayed a perfectly all right picture of my desktop. I
did not get the corrupted colors but the ones that should have been there.
Any more ideas? Otherwise I will try a digital camera.

Last time the error occurred when I selected 'Task' from the menu bar and
clicked on 'Navigator'. In the instant of hitting on 'Navigator' the corruption
occured and the window came not up until a few more seconds passed (as usual).
I send screen shots, made with a digital camera directly to you via email. The
quality is bad but you can see the effect.
It also happens when changing to another screen resolution or when changing the
number of colors.
Markus, I recommend that you select a representative picture that adequately
demonstrates the problem and attach it to this bug so others can view it.
I created screen images I took with a digital camera as attachments. The quality
is poor and I have the camera no more. So we have to cope with these pictures.
Interesting is:
the screen is getting dark
the green background is getting messed up (stripes in all colors)
the mouse pointer and watch are displayed all right
when trying to make a screen capture, the right colors are stored, not the
corrupted colors
May have some relation to Bug 106238.
Happens also when loading new mail or while a web page builds up. Not only when
a new window opens.
Markus, what color bit depth are you running at?
Severity: critical → normal
markus_jostock@online.de - are you running at 256 colour depth? That was
recently fixed up in Mozilla so please try a more recent build.

If your entire desktop is changing colour this is unlikely to be a Mozilla bug...

Gerv
Currently I am using 32768 colors. But it also occured with more or less colors.
Maybe it's not a Mozilla bug, but it only occurs with Mozilla and there quite
frequently. May it be some hardware restriction, e.g. video card?
This sounds like a bug in Mozilla that is somehow upsetting your video driver.
What video card and drivers are you using? Have you updated the driver software
to a recent version? Also, do you see the problem if you run in 'millions' of
colours?
Sounds similar to bug 105946.
The video card is reported as ATY,XCLAIM 888006X - I got the Mac second hand.
There was no update of the video drivers that I would know.
When I use milions of colors, the chromes in Mozilla turn black and it is not
usable.
Markus, since we know this definitely happens when you change your System color depth
while Mozilla is running, are you sure that isn't the problem you're encountering?
No I am not sure, frankly I am silly in this matter.
What would this mean if the color depth is my problem?
Markus, changing color depth is what you do when you change between "Millions of
Colors," "Thousands of Colors," and "256 Colors," for example.
I think we need to look at our GWorld/GDevice maintenance again. Taking.

Ever confirmed: true
The patch in bug 113480 might fix this, but since I can't repro it, it's hard to
tell.
In which release will the patch be included? It does not work yet with 0.9.7
(B.ID 2001122106) :-(
The patch is bad; don't install it. I'm working on some more extensive changes.
Should be fixed by changes for bug 113480.
