Details

when you hit cntl-n to bring up a new browser window, the location bar should have the text cursor focus. this way, you can hit cntl-n and immediately start typing in a URL
what version of mozilla are you using? My version (20011014) has this feature...
i would have expected this to be fixed a very long time ago. works fine for new window, and new tab. ...worksforme, build: 20011015 03
You're probably running into bug 76621, where the search sidebar steal focus from the location bar even when the search sidebar is not visible. Try closing the sidebar completely (F9) or switching to a different sidebar tab.
the problem was the "hidden" search bar. closing it with f9 works. Mozilla 0.9.4 Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:0.9.4) Gecko/20010913 Thanks
duplicate bug. and I'm still getting used to bugzilla. pretty slick though :) *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 76621 ***
