ICQ 99 has a feature that if you get a url in a message when clicking it , if you have a brower window open it will ask you if you want the link to open in the current browser or in a new browser window. This is usefull and prevents the problem of clinking a link and having it open in a browser window that you are doing stuff in. (the only way arround this is to right click on a click and select open in new window). Anyway, I think ading this would be very usefull and solve a lot of problems of this type occuring.
This is really a web-shell thing, right? We're just displaying a mail message in a web shell.
how about a summary :-)
Fixing product and component, cc'ing don
I don't agree with this. Wouldn't that mean every time I clicked a link, it would pop up a little menu saying "open in new window" or "open in current window"? That would get annoying, FAST. I think that using the right mouse button is a perfectly acceptable way to tell Mozilla to open in a new window.
reassigning jevering's old bugs to jar for adoption or to find them a new home

This is clearly a feature that some folks want, an some folks hate. It would take a bit of UI to satisfy everyone (prefs?? advanced prefs???), so for now, I'm just pushing it into the distance until an owner appears. M30, owner of firstname.lastname@example.org

This definitely needs to be a preference, and default to _off_. This would make browsing the web almost painful.
See also bug 35578, an rfe for a mailnews pref to open links in a new browser windows instead of in existing windows. That bug also has some discussion about what the default value of the pref should be.
Summary: [RFE]Open URL in current browser → Open URL in current browser
can we change this to wont fix. seems like it's not a necessary feature or that it actually already exists and the requester needs to ask windows to switch which mouse button performs right click and left click operations. this has not been touched since 2000 it's ready to be closed.
reporter, suite has sufficiently (substantially) changed for 3 mouse buttons and tabbed browsing such that is either WFM or INVALID. Recommend if there are still issues that you investigate several existing bugs on the subject. marking WFM
