Runs group "New search field in about:newtab page" and "New search field in New Tab page" contain the same runs. Just their name and dates differ.

I want to be a helper, but reading at the title of the bug and the comments in it, I can't tell how I can be of help. Should I remove one of the tests shown in the first screenshot?

Is this is a widespread problem where there are many tests cases with duplicate entries and it needs to be investigated?

Version 31 has now slightly renamed entries, although I can't claim responsibility for that.

It looks like petruta created both of these runs, perhaps they can distinguish the difference.

Those are the test runs of the same suite, ran for the "Search field in newtab page" feature.
First ran was due to the Aurora merge sign-off, and the second one for the pre-beta sign-off (https://wiki.mozilla.org/SearchProviderSuggestions/Test_Plan).

I could have added the buildID too, but other than that I can't see a problem here.

You can take a look on FirefoxOS - v 2.0 where there are a lot of Firefox OS Daily smoketests [buildID] runs.
