User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/36.0.1985.125 Safari/537.36 Steps to reproduce: I updated previous Thunderbird version to version 31.0 Actual results: I cannot send or receive email unless I turn off Avast anti virus. Very inconvenient. Expected results: It should just work like it always has. Alert: Sending of message failed. The message could not be sent using SMTP server host.tzmserver.com for an unknown reason. Please verify that your SMTP server settings are correct and try again, or contact your network administrator.
That does not seem to be a problem with thunderbird, but one with avast.

Summary: can't send or recieve → can't send or receive mail unless avast antivirus is turned off
You will find all over the web people who are having issues with 31.0 not sending or receiving. People are trying everything to get TB working. Anyone else got a solution to offer?

https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=112980.0 Apparently there should be some setting in avast that lets you allow secure connections, instructions should be here: http://support.avast.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=458 (but that doesn't resolve to me) Anyway, of course we'd like it to work, but there's nothing at all we could do. You should complain to avast instead as it's a bug in their software. Or switch to another anti-virus software...

This NOT invalid. You have made an update to Thunderbird which is now not working for millions with Avast antivirus. The previous version of TB worked just fine - but you updated it and now it is not working for millions of us. Dismissing of this complaint is typical of big companies - not the open source community. Shame....
You're missing the point. There is nothing we could do about it even if we could (but we can't). Only avast can make the necessary changes so that their program will not block thunderbird from working.
