Details
Steps to reproduce: - Set browser.search.openintab to True, to open search results in new tabs - Open a new, empty, tab (Tab 1) - Search from the Search Bar What happened: The results are shown in a brand new tab (Tab 2), without reusing the empty Tab 1 What should have happened: Until very recently (1 month?), the results would open in the empty Tab 1, so basically Firefox would reuse the last empty tab instead of creating a new one. This may be related to the new search bar in the "New Tab" introduced in Firefox 31.

Might want get a regression range using http://mozilla.github.io/mozregression/

I tested with FF17 and I didn't observe this behaviour: searching from a new empty tab opens a 2nd tab. Could you test in safe mode (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode) and with a clean profile (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles), please.

I'm now thinking the behavior I was expected was due to my using Tab Mix Plus, not a native feature of Firefox. I must have disabled Tab Mix Plus at some point and did not realize that was the reason for the change. Sorry for raising a wrong issue. That being said, this could be a default behavior of firefox.
