With a wide screen like we have on the flatfish tablet (or might have with other form factors), in this specific case landscape mode and 1280px wide, the current settings for vertical homescreen (3 or 4 columns) don't work out. We need to detect those cases and provide different column number options and defaults for those devices.
Note that right now, the flatfish builds use the old horizontal homescreen, but I'm pretty convinced we should switch to vertical when this is fixed, as it probably works out fine and rocketbar etc. are tied in with that AFAIK.
I agree! It's time to switch to the new vertical homescreen.

Mass update: Resolve wontfix all issues with legacy homescreens. As of 2.6 we have a new homescreen and having these issues open is confusing. All issues will block bug 1231115 so we can use that to re-visit any of these if needed.
