This means I can't use textboxes to strategically cover parts of a screencast/video, needing to resort to lines consisting of a single space and fiddling with the font size to get it to align. This is not fun.

Using text events to create blocks of colour, even if we made it easier, is probably not ideal. Maybe a new track event needs to exist that basically creates a block of colour?
