To improve the discoverability of the task switcher, the soft home key icon should show a "task switcher" icon when on home screen. On other views, the soft home key should indicate that it will return the user home.

So, is the goal to keep the current SHB "icon" as-is (the white ring) and only use an icon when on the home screen, or is there supposed to be a different icon when viewing other apps?

Also, what "task-switching" icon are we using here? Searching the images available in the system app, there wasn't anything already matching an icon for task management.

Hi Eli,

I'm taking over this from Hung while he's on PTO.  I just had a quick sync-up with Rob MacDonald on it and we will be working toward a final proposal tomorrow.  The most likely scenario in our minds is:

1) use the circle (ring) icon in all screens but the homescreen.
2) on the homescreen, we'll use a different icon that communicates 'task switching'

The exact nature of each icon is not yet finalized but we'll be looking to make a final call on it tomorrow pending what we hear back from Sony.  There is a request to change the ring to a dot, so that needs to be sorted out.

Also, the display of a task switcher icon is dependent upon to launching the new task switcher design. So, if we retain the existing carousel in 2.1, then the home button would not change.

Although the icon switch may not be in scope for 2.1, the only potential issue I noticed with this video is that, from the task switcher, the home button icon should be displayed.

Mass update: Resolve wontfix all issues with legacy homescreens.

As of 2.6 we have a new homescreen and having these issues open is confusing. All issues will block bug 1231115 so we can use that to re-visit any of these if needed.
