(Keywords: regression)

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.2; WOW64; rv:31.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/31.0 (Beta/Release)
Build ID: 20140716183446

Steps to reproduce:

Open a new mail, and begin to type the email address.

I have only a local address book, with a long list of collected-addresses, and many 'folders'

Actual results:

TBird hangs while it tries to find all the email addresses that contain that specific character. After the hang, for a few seconds, then I can type a second character. The hang time is less, and essentially diminishes to not noticeable after the 3rd character.

Expected results:

I don't see any utility for searching for a single (as first typed) character, and it certainly help if the address book response is either:
a) deferred until a second character is typed; or
b) there is a config switch that allows me to disable first-character searching (or the converse: a variant of a), above, where there is a switch to enable it, for those who might assert some utility.

I assume the addresses, in each of the address book 'folders', are not indexed for search purposes. I don't think going index route for a fix is best choice; I vote for not doing a search until the second character is typed
