Using the Quick Launch taskbar icon, I can open more than a single main mail
window. Unknown wether or not they synchronize between each other, but if it's
not an intentional bit of functionality, they likely do not.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Right-click the Quick Launch icon.
2.Select "Mail and News".
3.Repeat.

Actual Results:  I got more than one main "Mail and News" window open.

Expected Results:  If you hit "Mail and News" from the "Quick Launch" ocon, or
otherwise attept to open it more than once, it should bring the first one to the
foreground for you.

I don't know if that would cause any serious problems, and since I use Moz for
my main mail account I'd rather not find out the hard way. ;)
If there are two main mail windows open though, and it's not intentionally
programmed to do that, they likely do not synchronize and could both be getting
mail/saving mail/etc and screw up the mail DB..

This may have been reported before as well, the bugzilla search times out on me.

I believe the ability to have multiple MailNews windows open simoultanously is
actually a feature, implemented by the fix for bug 31805.

Correct, this is a feature, and as far as I know, doesn't cause any ill-harm.

Bug 31805 was about multiple mail windows, but not about multiple _main_ mail
windows. From its description:

"Surprisingly, I can't find a bug for this feature, so I'm entering a new one.
When you double click on a folder in the folder pane, a new mail window should
open up to load that folder. That way, you can read mail and news at the same time."

There should be a single mail main window, but possibly several additional main
windows with only certain folders (for each account, or whatever).
