From Bugzilla Helper: User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:0.9.4) Gecko/20010913 BuildID: I'd like to have some Flash plugins here, it is free so where do I install it? Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Open a site 2.The site asks for Flash 3.I don't know what to do about it Actual Results: No Flash Expected Results: Give Flash a chance
if you already had flash in 4.7*: just copy or link libflashplayer.so to the mozilla plugin dir. To find where libflashplayer.so is located, try writing "locate libflashplayer.so" Otherwise, download the correct flashplayer from Macromedia - install - and then copy. If you have installed mozilla as root, in the default dir of /usr/local/mozilla you must be root when you copy the plugin to that directory. When a plugin is missing, a popup is supposed to appear and prompt you to download. Did that appear in your case? Did you click on it to download?
Reporter, go to http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/alternates/ to get Flash for Linux. I had to install Flash just yesterday on my Windows machine. I got the popup, clicked the button and it took me straight to Macromedia's Flash download page. I downloaded the .exe and ran it to install Flash. Then I thought why? In IE if you go to a Flash page without Flash you get a dialogue that offers to install it for you. If you let it then it uses ActiveX to download and install it without the need to run any executables, use any installers or leave IE. It's a pretty seamless experience. Can't we do something similar with XPI technology? And if so, why aren't plugin manufacturers utilising it?
