If I use the official nightly builds from Mozilla, the Yosemite behind-window vibrancy is working perfect for me on 10.10. But its not working in my own build. It is only working if the app is in the foreground. If Firefox is in the background, the sidebar is black. My mozconfig for this was: # Options for 'configure' (same as command-line options). ac_add_options --with-macos-sdk=/Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.10.sdk ac_add_options --enable-macos-target=10.10 ac_add_options --enable-application=browser ac_add_options --enable-optimize ac_add_options --enable-official-branding ac_add_options --enable-update-packaging ac_add_options --enable-update-channel=beta ac_add_options --disable-debug ac_add_options --disable-tests ac_add_options --disable-unified-compilation

(In reply to :Gijs Kruitbosch from comment #1) > Have you tried recompiling without the macos-target and SDK flags? No, not yet. But I will try that later.
I tested my patches by compiling against the 10.8 SDK. I can totally see the 10.10 SDK making a difference here.
OK, I've tried with 10.8 SDK, with and without target=10.8. No difference. I've tried without disable-unified-compilation. Also no difference.
I have tried it now with freshly downloaded and absolutely untouched mozilla-central code, without any user-defined mozconfig. But I still have this issue. It's still black. :-( Could it be the Clang version I'm using or the version of Xcode or my build machine or that I'm building it under OS X 10.10?? Apart from that, I don't see any other difference. Apple LLVM version 6.0 (clang-600.0.47) (based on LLVM 3.5svn), Target: x86_64-apple-darwin14.0.0, Xcode 6 b6, OS X 10.10 14A329f, MacBook Pro Early 2013.
This is very strange. Sorry, I just don't know.
I wonder if there is a way to debug this? A normal debug build didn't get me any hint about this.
> OK, I've tried with 10.8 SDK, with and without target=10.8. Try with the 10.8 SDK and with the target==10.8. Do the same with the 10.9 SDK and the target==10.9. Let us know your results.

I've now tried 10.9 too, this also didn't help. mk_add_options MOZILLA_OFFICIAL=1 ac_add_options --with-macos-sdk=/Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.8.sdk ac_add_options --enable-macos-target=10.8 --> Black mk_add_options MOZILLA_OFFICIAL=1 ac_add_options --with-macos-sdk=/Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.9.sdk ac_add_options --enable-macos-target=10.9 --> Black
I bet I know what the problem is. I see the black too if "Reduce Transparency" in Accessibility -> General is turned on. Does this match what you see? I'm pretty sure we aren't handling "Reduce Transparency" properly, so hopefully your issue is the same as mine, which would make this a lot easier to fix.
The only thing I can suggest is fiddle with your mozconfig until you find something that works. What version of XCode are you using? Is it Apple's latest version for Yosemite? Have you tried installing Apple's latest commandline tools for Yosemite? Was your Yosemite a clean install, or an upgrade? If so are you still using older versions of XCode and the commandline tools that were installed on the previous version of OS X? Are there any interesting messages in the System console? And yes, also try Josiah's suggestion :-)

It was not turned on. But if I do so, than this issue gets a lot worse. Ahhh! Than its totally black if the app is in foreground AND background. This black is much darker than the black from my initial issue (screenshot). So maybe this has something to do with it. I have tried a lot already. And I see this issue in Thunderbird too. Its the most recent Xcode version, 6 Beta 6. The one for Yosemite. My Yosemite was not a clean install, I have updated from 10.9.5 Beta. But I installed the most recent Command line tools. I also deleted my MacPorts folder and installed everything freshly (its MacPorts trunk, because there is 10.10 installer so far). There are tons of messages in the system console, how do I define an "interesting" message?
> I have updated from 10.9.5 Beta You mean an OS X 10.9.5 DP? Which one? Upgrading from a non-release version of OS X is generally asking for trouble. Which DP of Yosemite did you install? > how do I define an "interesting" message? I can't really say, unfortunately.
Oh, thats interesting. I've made an installer from my recent non working FF Nightly. Than I've tested this build, which had issues on my Retina MacBook Pro, on my old iMac with 10.10 DP5. On my iMac I had no issues. It worked fine, nice vibrancy and no black issue at all. So, the issue is only on the Mac the version was build on. Maybe its GPU related? I don't remember which one, the one two or three weeks ago. I installed Yosemite DP5 and updated to DP6.
After updating to Yosemite 10.10 DP7, this is fixed for me. I've tried with some mozconfigs and now its working fine whatever I use. So, either it was an Apple bug which is fixed now or something was messed up on my system. The only thing I still see is in some cases a fuzzy font in the vibrant area, but I'm pretty sure this is another bug, because I have read that already somewhere. But I can not find that bug anymore currently...

I filed bug 1062801 on "Reduce Transparency". For the text issue there's bug 1055634.
I can reproduce this on my copy of beta 2, against an official nightly. :-(

You mean Beta 2 of 10.10? Have you tried the latest version of 10.10? My issue is fixed since DP7.
(In reply to Nomis101 from comment #19) > You mean Beta 2 of 10.10? Have you tried the latest version of 10.10? My > issue is fixed since DP7. I've not paid Apple 100$ a year to be in the developer program, so no DP7 for me, it seems. AFAICT public beta 2 is the latest thing out there. So: I don't know.
OK, than hopefully beta 3 will help. But interesting, that you see this issue with an official nightly.
beta 3 is out, but I'm out in a tiny village in Italy, so I don't know how long it'll take me to retest this there - it might be Monday (when I get back home). Setting needinfo so I don't forget.
Flags: needinfo?(gijskruitbosch+bugs)
Yes, this is gone on beta 3 for me. :-)
