Steps to reproduce:

I had italics text written in an old version of SeaMonkey. I downloaded version 2.26.1. When I copied new text into the italics text, I could not convert it to normal text. Then I discovered that I could not convert any of the old italics text -- whether clicking on the icon, using the drop-down box, or using the key command. However, new italics text would convert back and forth.


Actual results:

Nothing. Zilch. The command failed to work.


Expected results:

Old italics text should have been converted to normal text upon command, and back if so desired.

I found a way to defeat the problem. 
First, I selected the entire italicized text. 
That enabled the italics/non-italics command.
After converting the whole to normal text, then italics again,
I could convert parts of the italicized text as desired.

NOT reproducible with unofficial (from <http://seamonkey.callek.net/contrib/>)  en-US SeaMonkey 2.44a1  Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; x64; rv:47.0)  Gecko/20100101 Firefox/47.0 Build 20160208090255  (Default Classic Theme)  on German WIN7 64bit.

When I open attached document with SeaMonkey 2.44a1 and select italic line or italic strings click on Italic icon will remove italic fom that text.

Same good result for test document with SeaMonkey 2.26.1 (WIN)

No comments within 17 mpnths, seems to be a rather selcom issue. 

Irreproducible, sample document and step by step instruction missing ...

Never confirmed by a second user, so I close this one for now.
@Reporter: Please feel free to reopen this Bug if you still can reproduce the problem with a current SeaMonkey version and if you can contribute a step by step instruction how to reproduce the problem due to <https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/QA/Bug_writing_guidelines>  (containing every key press and every mouse click) how to reproduce the problem reliably.
