Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.2; WOW64; rv:32.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/32.0
Build ID: 20140825202822

Steps to reproduce:

I went to help, and checked for updates. The dialog box present an available update, from 31 to 31.1

I approved this change

At/about the same time, I requested an update check and application to Firefox. That update, 31 to 32, proceeded normally, but had its own problems, later, with the plugin updates

Actual results:

The download completed, and the dialog displayed "applying update". This condition persisted for minutes, and nothing happens. This condition existed through the completion of the Firefox update.

I hit the "x" to close the dialog box in TBird, and it closed. The update then proceeded, requesting administrative permission in Win8 and onward.

Expected results:

The process shouldn't hang on the 'applying update' dialog box.
Component: Untriaged → Installer
Summary: Update from Ver 31 to 31.1 hangs on applying update → Update from Ver 31.0 to 31.1.0 hangs on applying update
Does this still reproduce?
In safe mode https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/safe-mode ?

I just executed the update to 31.1.2, and basically, the same thing happened.

Update dialog, approved, downloaded, and then.... applying, and stuck there.

Closed the dialog box, closed tbird, and restarted. On restart Tbird, the Win8 update confirmation appeared, and the updated then moved on and completed.

This encounter with the bug was 31.1.1 ---> 31.1.2
I have no means to safe mode test it; I am inferring you suspect that one of the add-ons is misbehaving in this context. I guess next update, say to x.x.3+, I will restart in safe mode, and then undertake the update.

Not really. But it's standard operating procedure for all bug reports.

marking resolved, as going into 31.1.4, recently, did not hang. I wonder if the updates to Firefox and TBird do not play well if acting concurrently...
