In Bug 1045792 work was done to explore new promotion mechanisms for features and functionality in Firefox. This is an implementation bug for one of the ideas explored: Adding "New" labels to new features and functionality in Firefox. How do you expect this to be localized? How long should this label be there / when should it disappear?

From the design doc: The icon disappears when the menu/customize mode has been opened three times or when a user clicks on the icon.

Yes, but "new" translated might be way longer than three letters...
That's something we will have to investigate. An alternate solution can be to just have a notification circle on new features. http://cl.ly/image/213b0j2K0r0g
