There is only one way to set the timezone currently: select a city that happens to be in the same timezone as you are. I couldn't find one yesterday: I am in Utah and Utah's capital (Salt Lake City) is not in the list. But even if it was, it would be completely impractical: I don't know all capitals of all US states. Moreover, the cities in the "America" list are so badly ordered. Sometimes there is the state (eg: North Dakota), sometimes not. And "North Dakota" is in english whereas my locale is french. We don't need the cities in this list. What we need (for USA at least) is the states, and possibly some particularity inside the states (because I think some indian reservations have different rules). We also need to be able to select the country before the city. And last but not least, we should be able to enter the timezone directly, either the difference with UTC (eg: UTC-7; be careful we can have partial hours here too) or the timezone name (eg: Mountain time zone). Because of this I couldn't set my timezone yesterday in Utah. The automatic time zone was off by one hour for some reason and I couldn't find any city in the right timezone (even if that I _knew_ the timezone !).

Note that I'm using a v2.0 build right now, so please close the bug if it was changed in a more recent version.
OS: Linux → Gonk (Firefox OS)
Hardware: x86_64 → ARM
Time zone is automatically detected as of 2.1, bypassing most of this.

How is it automatically detected? Using geolocation?
It's in master, if you want to take a look. Not sure; just don't see what you describe on current builds.
Firefox OS is not being worked on
