User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:35.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/35.0
Build ID: 20140904030202

Steps to reproduce:

1. Menu -> Help -> About Firefox
2. Restart to update

Dialog box pops up - Software Update Failed.

The update could not be installed. Please make sure there are no other copies of Firefox running on your computer, and then restart Firefox to try again.

Had Mediasource and e10s autostart enabled. Happens after disabling it also.

ah yes im aware of that issue.
At that time Nightly was in a transition from 34 to 35, maybe the update channels were down. Can you please try now using the same build from when you tested? I tried myself and Nightly successfully updated.

Nightly build: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/2014-09-05-03-02-06-mozilla-central/firefox-35.0a1.en-US.linux-x86_64.tar.bz2

ah i had this problem with 34 version A LOT.

I did a fresh install of the 35 version and the first update happened to show this error, which was why i filed the report.
It was a new install and separate profile too.

But i dont know, somehow after shutting down the browser and after leaving the computer for an hour or so, the update installed on its own fine, and the past two updates have been fine also.

So im really not able to put a finger on whats the problem causing this :/

I think i've narrowed this down.
While the update happens it does not check if there's any remaining hard-drive space available to complete the upgrade process and hence it fails.
My linux partition is small and used to constantly fill to near maximum and Firefox updates failed then.

It'd be best to have a message popup to in-case there's not enough drive space to ensure a seamless update process.
