[v2.2] Feature Proposal: webOS-like Card Re-Arranging

Details
Currently, the multitasking view is "static" in that the user can not control what apps are near other apps. This quickly becomes frustrating when the number of open cards exceeds 2, as the user has to move between many cards in order to access relevant info (say you're copy/pasting from one browser tab to your messages app 5 cards away... ugh..) I'd like to suggest that the user be allowed to shuffle the order of the cards by tapping/holding on a card to "lift" it from the stack, whereupon they can drop the card into a new position by dragging left/right and then letting go. In this manner, the user is able to perform some minimal task optimization and allows them to more easily reference other cards quickly by using the edge gestures more optimally.

Thank you for your suggestion. This was in plan for this feature, but I'm flagging Francis for the latest status and/or to see where we landed on this.

AFAIK, this feature has not been under consideration and is not being planned in 2.2. I can see some limited value in doing this but I'm not sure if it's enough to justify including it. I used to work on webOS - it's a different model than ours and made more sense there, and even in webOS' case we found that this feature was barely used.

Francis, Could you please consider this anyway? This is one of the features that made webOS multi-tasking so pleasant to use and unique among all the other implementations that copied it, albeit poorly. I think part of the reason why it may not have seen heavy use in webOS was because it wasn't really covered in the gesture tutorial. We have the First Use tutorial in FFXOS, and I believe that having this as a part of that tutorial would inform and encourage users to take advantage of it. There is nothing more annoying than having the OS decide what arrangement of cards it thinks I should have when I have a different idea. Imagine having your desktop browser determine tab order with no option to arrange them when you're working with multiple tabs open. Obnoxious? You bet. This, to me, is really no different.
