When I have certain Linux programs open, including DoomRL and VLC (only while playing a video), and have the window open but behind Firefox, and you scroll through a page, there is a visible "slice" near where the edge of the window would be if it would be front. I can't seem to capture a screenshot, but it resembles a "slicing" more when smooth scrolling is enabled, and "sliding blocks" when smooth scrolling is disabled. SPECS: LinuxMint 64-bit, Firefox 33 Beta (had same problem under Firefox 32 when it was beta), installed locally ($HOME/bin/firefox-beta) rather than the packaged version. NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 (For more info on my graphics settings and configuration, see the LinuxMint hardware guide I made here: http://community.linuxmint.com/hardware/view/20946)
Is the problem gone if you run Firefox in the Firefox safemode ? http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode >LinuxMint 64-bit, Firefox 33 Beta (had same problem under Firefox 32 when it was beta), installed locally >($HOME/bin/firefox-beta) rather than the packaged version. You do not have the issue in Firefox32 (final Release) but you see it in Firefox33 beta ? In that case it could be something that got backed out from 32beta or this is a feature that is currently disabled on Release builds. Would you to do a regression range search with our semi-automated tool if I tell you how?

I said I *did* have the issue with both Firefox 32 and 33. I realized later on that Okular was exhibiting the same behaviors when Firefox was closed. I'm wondering if this is Firefox specific, or if I have to check GPU or KDE settings.
Dan, > Is the problem gone if you run Firefox in the Firefox safemode ? > http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode Please try it. It disables extensions and hardware acceleration. You can also toggle HWA at Preferences → Advanced → General. Some details are at about:support (Help → Troubleshooting Information). > Would you to do a regression range search with our semi-automated tool if I > tell you how? For speed, the "how" is at https://harthur.github.io/mozregression/

I still have the same problem with Safe Mode.

I tested a variety of video files and DVDs on my computer using VLC, it seems that this problem only seems to happen on certain videos (and all DVDs). This makes me wonder if the application which triggers the Firefox bugs is related to whether or not the *application* uses hardware acceleration. Here are some VLC settings which could be relevant: Under the "Video" tab: "Accelerated video output (overlay)" is checked Output is "OpenGL GLX video output (XCB)" Under the "Input & Codecs" tab: "Hardware-accelerated decoding" is set to "Video Acceleration (VA) API"
This appears to happen when Audacious is open. I use a classic (Winamp 2) skin and no visualization (other than the mini bars underneath the elapsed time). I doubt Audacious is using hardware acceleration, but I might be wrong.
Hello Dan. Since the reported problem is pretty old and there have been some releases of both Firefox and Audacious, can you please try to reproduce it on your end? I had no success reproducing it using the latest stable release of Audacious <<Current stable release: 3.7.1 (December 28, 2015)>> and latest Firefox release(43) + Firefor Nightly(46a). Not Reproducible on: User Agent Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:43.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/43.0 - Build ID 20151210084841 User Agent Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:46.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/46.0 - Build ID 20160103030302
