User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:32.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/32.0 Build ID: 20140911151253 Steps to reproduce: I can login to both of my Gmail accounts using Thunderbird but since two days ago after I updated/changed my passwords, whenever I try to Send a Gmail account email using Thunderbird, the smtp.gmail.com server indicates it is trying to use an email account (which I deleted 2 months ago) to verify my password (which I no longer have stored anywhere). If I try to Enable 'Less Security' which is one piece of resolution advice from Gmail, it still doesn't allow me to login to either of my current email addresses. This only happens when I am sending emails via Thunderbird from either of my current two accounts. Incoming mail via Thunderbird works correctly as it always had using my stored passwords which allows me to skip entering login passwords each time. Thanks for any insight into this problem. I realize it seems to be a Gmail problem, not a problem with Thunderbird but I am looking for any solution suggestions. I cannot update the password on my deleted account (which the Outgoing Gmail server is trying to use because if I try and Login to that deleted Gmail account the reply comes back that it doesn't exist (which is true), however Gmail must have the deleted Gmail address/account and its password stored somewhere on its server. I don't want to have to delete all my gmail addresses and create new ones for all the obvious reasons. Pm Actual results: When I try to Send an email via Thunderbird I receive the following msg.... Enter your password for pmikxxxx@gmail.com on smtp.gmail.com (pmikxxxx is an email address I deleted 2+ months ago) If I enter the password for the Gmail address that I am logged in to via Thunderbird it says it is incorrect and the same for other previous passwords. If I try and Login to Gmail directly to Gmail using that old Gmail address, Gmail says that the account does not exist...which is true BUT somewhere within its servers, Gmail still has the password Expected results: Wanted to be able to Send emails via Thunderbird. I am able to receive emails via Thunderbird for both my current Gmail accounts....just cannot Send.
It indicates that your "SMTP server choice" is still "use userID=pmikxxxx@gmail.com upon mail sending via SMTP" in Tb. Read following document and check your settings. Is you setting correct? > http://kb.mozillazine.org/Mail_concepts > http://kb.mozillazine.org/Mail_concepts#Identities > http://kb.mozillazine.org/Mail_concepts#SMTP_servers
Yes, see in Account settings -> Outgoing server (SMTP) -> <your server> -> Edit -> User name . Input the username you want to use for sending. Probably one of the new working ones.
The email address I have for the Outgoing server User name IS my current/normal/working email address. But when I try and Send an email the error message that comes back from the Gmail server shows my deleted email address....not the email address specified in the Outgoing Server User Name. There is nowhere else in any account settings that I use the deleted email address. Pm
In my last sentence above, I should have stated... There is NOWHERE IN ANY ACCOUNT SETTINGS that I use the old deleted email address. The gmail servers 'grab' that from somewhere on their servers it seems and then try and associate that with my current password. If I try and login with that old email address, Gmail 'says' that account doesn't exist. Pm
I have also posted this unusual? problem on a Gmail forum but no responses as yet. Pm
(In reply to WADA from comment #1) > It indicates that your "SMTP server choice" is still "use > userID=pmikxxxx@gmail.com upon mail sending via SMTP" in Tb. > Read following document and check your settings. Is you setting correct? > > http://kb.mozillazine.org/Mail_concepts > > http://kb.mozillazine.org/Mail_concepts#Identities > > http://kb.mozillazine.org/Mail_concepts#SMTP_servers Thanks for your reply WADA. I have checked ALL settings again and can find NO reference to the deleted email address that comes back in the error message from Gmail when I try and send a message. No reply from the Gmail forum that I posted to.
Maybe you have multiple SMTP servers defined in the Outgoing server pane?
Also try to find the prefs.js file in your Thunderbird profile and see if there is any mention of that username/address . If yes, tell us the preference key (the string before the comma).
Duplicate of bug 255948?
Removing the outgoing server doesn't remove password information which can be located in Preferences/Security/Passwords and button "Saved passwords...".
If your SMTP related setings(SMTP server setting/SMTP server coice of Identity) are correct, check your Google Account's Security setting, Go Google's Account Settings. https://www.google.com/settings https://www.google.com/settings/security Account permissions Access for less secure apps : current status(Enbled/Disabled) < Link of "Setting" > Click < Link of "Setting" > => https://www.google.com/settings/security/lesssecureapps Less secure apps < Link of "Learn more" > => Click < Link of ""Learn more"" >, and read sown document well. Which Gggle's server(FQDN) do you use in Tb'd server/smtp settings? (a) imap.gmail.com / smtp.gmail.com (b) imap.googlemail.com / smtp.googlemail.com <== if auto-config of Tb, this is prefilled at Wizard panel by Tb "Which server is used" may affect on Google's behavior.
Peter, with all this advice, did you get your issue sorted out?
