As Brendan says,
"Never judge a crash by the victim frame at the top of the stack."

This does not look like a bug in JS Engine to me. Reassigning to
XP Toolkit/Widgets: XUL in case they may recognize this stack trace.
This is simply because of references I see here to nsXULDocument.cpp;
please reassign as necessary; thanks -

Does that mean that all of these crashes occurred on Oct 11? Is this crashing
in current builds? [None of the ID's listed above are current, all Oct 11].

John, that means that all of the crashes in that particular report occurred with
build 2001101120 (the final Mozilla 0.9.5 build i think) and they occurred over
the time period: 2001-10-15 to 2001-10-24.

As Phil said, this crash is tricky...since not all of the incidents reported
under the JS_GetPrivate are the same crash. Looking at the MozillaTrunk data
from today, I see 11 crashes with that stack signature, but not all the comments
involve the same task:

(36926277)	Comments: Running URL's:- Chofman's Browser Buster (JS string

closing JS string test.

We might need to take different comments and look at each stack trace separately
to find the different crash cases.
Does this look like the "hidden window safe context goes away behind xpconnect's
back" bug, or perhaps the xpintsall bug that was fixed in an ad-hoc way on the
0.9.4 branch, but not on any trunk or branch since (AFAIK)?

100% testcase (at least on Win32):

http://www.sgi.com/company_info/investors/

Click on the New York Stock Exchange logo.

I'm seeing infinite recursion on Linux with stephend's testcase -- not a crash.
See the attached stack for details.
jband's testcase suggests that danm could help soonest. I don't see hyatt
implicated in the backtraces.

The attached patch fixes the crash w/o regressing bug 28580 nor bug 50509 (as
the comment in the code warns about). Someone who knows what this could possibly
regress should test this and see if it breaks, or see if there's a better way to
block this infinite recursion.
Target Milestone: mozilla1.0.1 → mozilla0.9.7
Thanks Johnny for taking a look at this. However, this one's pretty much the
same as bug 110856, and I went with that fix.

It looks like the same crash to me by looking at the stacks...but if I'm wrong
let me know. There are many more crashes too, but I just include the top few here.

Updating severity to critical since this is somewhat of a regression...and it
hasn't been looked at for a while. We also need to retarget this bug.

Great horny toads! I have a 0.9.7 bug?
I see in the bug history that this bug has been a catch-all for any crash that
happened while executing script as the window finished loading. It was finally
boiled down to one instance; an infinite recursion. That's when I got the bug,
and that's the one I fixed. I'm not even certain that bug was related to the
original report, now that I read further back.
The infinite recursion has been truly plugged, and filled with assertions
should the situation ever try to arise again. Lacking mention of those
assertions in the new stack traces, I doubt the same thing is happening.
The crash descriptions for which this bug was reopened are all pretty much the
same as in the original report. The talkback comments name a dozen random
unrelated tasks that users were trying when some crash happened executing
script. There were probably always several bugs here.
As I said above, I feel certain the crash this bug settled on in comments 8 -
10 hasn't even tried to reoccur, else we'd be seeing assertions. The best that
could be done here is for someone to actually find a reproducible test case.
When that happens, I'm sure it'll be a different bug. Until then, there isn't a
thing I or anyone else can do with this, so there's not much benefit to be had
leaving this bug open.
