Details
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:33.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/33.0
Build ID: 20140915204924
Steps to reproduce:
1. Downloaded the Firefox Nightly Roku Channel from http://starkravingfinkle.org/blog/2014/06/firefox-for-android-casting-videos-and-roku-support-ready-to-test-in-nightly/
2. Downloaded Firefox Beta from https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mozilla.firefox_beta
3. The Firefox Roku channel just shows me up the "Get Setup, View recent history, Help&Setttings", which shows the steps, but nothing is active. But, its just a test channel, so I thought it should be okay.
4. Open a test webpage or the cast screen webpage from Mozilla (http://people.mozilla.org/~mfinkle/casting/test.html) from the android device.
5. After the playback started in the video clip, I could see the "Cast screen" icon below the video clip. When I clicked that, it shows up the Roku player and after I selected the player from list, the video goes to pause state in Android screen and nothing comes in Roku screen and it goes to the home screen of Roku Channel listing. Is this what expected or I am missing something? I couldn't comment on Mark Finkle's blog, so raising this bug. Please suggest a way to test the same in roku channel or any other updated instructions to follow please?
Actual results:
1. Video playback in the android screen stopped playing.
2. After cast screen option is chosen for Roku player, no video clip playback comes out of the Roku firefox channel or the HDMI TV screen.
Expected results:
1. I assume video playback should continue in Android screen
2. Video playback should get transferred onto the TV screen through the Roku Firefox Channel and play the clip which is being played on the Android device.
Please let me know if you need additional info or other technical details, if any. Thanks for the support.

#1 is not the design. When we fling the video to Roku we pause the playback on your device.

Right.
What version of the Firefox for Roku channel do you have installed on your Roku? Is it "Firefox Nightly"? If so, that won't work with Firefox Beta for Android. You need to install the Release version of the Roku channel too:

Firefox Nightly Roku Channel will not work with Firefox Beta. Use the Firefox Roku channel:

Got it. Thanks Mark. I was able to download the other Roku channel, instead of 'Nightly' into my Roku box. Was able to follow the same steps to cast a video screen onto the Roku channel. But, as mentioned in the Notes section of the release, I was not able to play all the files that are able to play in the Android device. Also, is there a feature/plug-in that works in a similar way to cast the screen from PC/Mac to the Firefox Beta Roku channel, just curious. I could see only "Send Tab to Device" option in Desktop Beta versions.

Roku only supports MP4 file format. Make sure the videos you want to fling are in that format. Firefox itself can play many more formats.

Work is underway to add similar support in Firefox for Desktop in bug 1054959.
[Roku only supports MP4 file format. Make sure the videos you want to fling are in that format. Firefox itself can play many more formats.]
Thanks Mark. Understood. Firefox doesn't show up as a browser in the Channel though, right? So, we cannot do much with it from the Roku sink end, even though Firefox supports it? Will get back if there are additional questions during my further testing.

Thanks for the info. Will follow the thread and try those.
Will close the bug as resolved. Thanks for the support. Looking forward to understand and work/contribute on the Mozilla open source for Firefox Browser project.
